I just bought a 86 190E 16V with a bad engine. If anyone knows has one or a place where I could find one please let me know.

    Thanks Thomas

PS I would also consider a 2.5L engine

Put an S14 in it :)

what is exactly "bad" on the engine? do you need specific parts or
    everything new?

Those MB evo engines are not cheap!

    Hi,

RevmasterT- stick with the 2.3 16v if you can as it has the
original Cosworth Head/ Cams etc whereas the 2.5 16v is Mercs own creation
of it and nowhere near as good.

I know where there is Car that a Guy will be breaking shortly, but shipping
over the engine will more than likely kill any prospect of it working.

Do you have the fixed auto sport box or switchable or the Getrag Manual ?

The fixed Auto sport gerabox is very rare and worth a lot on its own if in good
    condition.

    Regards,

    The Gorilla.

The guy I bought the car from drove it thru flood water. The engine sucked up a lot of water . Then the guy let it sit for 2-3 weeks without doing anything .
The engine is froze up so badly that when I tried turning it over it broke my Snap On breaker bar. My line of thinking was just to get a used engine for now and then later rebuild the original engine ( if it's rebuildable ) .

I think the S14 idea for the MB is not a very good one , that's worse then swapping a S50 lump into our E30. Just imagine the hate I would receive installing a S14 into the 190 .....

Hi Danny I think you are right I should stick with the 2.3 since I would like to keep it original. The 2.5L is way more money and probably not worth all the extra money.

I don't mind paying a little extra on shipping if I can get a good running engine. Here in the US they are not very well taken care off from what I have seen so far. I found one engine for $ 2200.00 US I asked the guy to pull the valve cover and send me a picture . It looked like someone had a barbeque inside the engine it was all slugged up and nasty.

My car has the Getrag 5 speed dogleg gearbox installed. I never heard of a evo with auto sport box .

If you could ask your guy and get me some more info on what he has I greatly appreciate it. :31:

    Thanks Thomas

I don't agree . Just look back in time in the DTM days they gave the E30 M3 a good run for the money.

Not to say I think less of our beloved M3 :4:

it just personal, my merc leaks more oil than the russian oil fields, hence not liking them.

    Revmaster...

May I suggest you take plugs, dump a can of WD-40 on the cylinder bores, let it sit for a couple of days and then on an appropriate enviroment find a slight downhil and try to get loose. If it looses then dump some more WD-40 and leave it "working" for a day then try to start it. Even if it the engine doesn't work properly it will still make the rebuild work a lot easier and you'll probably get away with a honing and new rings...

Probably worth giving it a try though.

Hi Kiko well I did that . I mixed up quite a cocktail out of Corrosion ex. Marvel Mystery Oil , ATF . I let it soak for about 3 days so far.
I even tried putting the car in third gear and moving the car back and forth with the help of two other guys ( rather large guys if I may say so ) well so far no luck. I may have to take the engine apart and jack hammer the pistons out :(

    Thomas

PS I'll try one more thing next week I hook up the 190 to a truck in tow.
Then I pop the clutch the engine will either brake loose or I may need a new drive shaft  . We will see

I wouldnt do that Thomas, why not just pull the engine and start disassembly?
if you save the block you could get some aftermarket pistons for it.

do you want to convert this car to airbox and alpha n as well? :)

I was thinking about that allready but have not researched this a whole lot as of yet. I would be very happy to receive any info someone may have.
It would be an advantage to get rid of the CIS fuel injection. Is there a AN system for the MB John ? I was considering a Motec system for the MB.
Do you know of anyone that sells a air box for a 190 ?

    Thanks Thomas

thats a nice engine, but its far removed from what you have in the
street going car. even further removed than a road going S14 compared
    to DTM S14.

there are 2-3 190s with airbox setups running at Nuerburgring all the time
    as well. they sound good.

I know this engine is a different animal from my stock 2.3 L
Wonder how much hp these engines had back in the day. Also if I had to guess you'll have to invest a lot more money to modify a MB engine compared to our S14.
Maybe I am getting ahead of myself but do you have source for a MB air box ?
I know I should get the car running first but it never hurts to ask, right ?

yes, MB parts are even more expensive it seems.
Thomas, we can build the airbox when its time.
do you have ITBs on your engine?

    Hi,

Revmaster T- that Merc DTM 2.5 engine in pic can make from
    375- 400 BHP plus.

They are stonking engines and seem to just keep pulling.

Cosworth had a lot of involvement in the early days on the complete
engine, but as soon as the Merc engineers were up to speed then the
Cosworth Guys had served their purpose.

In some ways I think the Merc EVO II is a nicer all round road car package
than the EVO Sport, but us Gorilla's look stupid in a ''Batman' costume
    so we passed.

    Regards,

    The Gorilla.

I often wonder where all the MB Evos ended up, I only see the same
3 at the Nuerburgring and thats it (every one of them are modified and
    have airbox setups).

Did noone care about these cars or are they being stored away for
better days? When you look at the BMW scene you see people taking
their sport evos to the race track, and at the Ring there is always a good
    E30 M3 showing.
