I have a set of Group N shock (the softer one's) but no springs. I would like to fit them as temp fix for the time till I will finally go for coil over's

Either looking for springs or selling the shocks.

Springs need to be in the region of Grp N, not H&R race or the like.

Looking for 800-900lbs rears, 600-700lbs fronts min.

BTW this is for the OEM front strut, not the threaded Grp N's.

    Thanks

I have a set of H&R Grp G springs, same thing, for stock installation, 160f/220r IIRC. Not sure whether I am going to use or not.

What are the spring rates you are quoting please? Kp, N?

Kp/cm or N/mm or Kg/cm is basically all the same thing...for our purpose
of describing a spring rate any small differences can be neglected.

    110 N/mm --> 112 Kp/cm --> 112 Kg/cm

The difference is how the force in Newton is converted to
mass in Kg. Weight is not mass, its a force.
    If you use 9.80665 N/Kg, then you get 110 N/mm = 112 Kg/cm (more exact).

However, you could also simply use a factor of 1 kg = 10 N, so that
    110 N/mm --> 110 Kg/cm which is exact enough.

    to convert 110 N/mm into lbs/inch:

    110 N/mm / (9.80665 N/kg) * 25.4 mm/inch * 2.2 lbs/kg = 627 lbs/inch

    or

    110 N/mm * 5.698 (lbs/inch)/(N/mm) = 627 lbs/inch

    or

    110 N/mm / 0.1755 (N/mm)/(lbs/inch) = 627 lbs/inch

...whichever conversion factor is easiest to remember.

    Thanks John very helpful.

SO if I work this out correct, these springs are 911lbs front and 1250lbs rear? Holy cow.......

That would be correct. Will work with the Grp N valving.

It only sounds like a lot.

The dampers can produce forces in excess of 2000 N or 11000 lbs....

Its for the same reason that 22 mm front / 18 mm rear or 21 / 16
anti roll bar setups are really inadequate for such spring / damper
setups and thats especially true when you run R-tires. 28 / 22 mm
bars are more like it if you actually want them to work !

PS: dont get the idea that you should delete your anti roll bars, thats not
    what I want to imply.

But I have the softer dampers. How much for the springs? :D

yes thanks, I have seen them already. they are advertised as 500/650 but according to Johns formulas I work out 570/680 ?!?

Currently I am running 350/560 which is nicely balanced with almost no understeer (at least before the cage went in....) and I don't want take any chances with a much different front to rear ratio.

also 680 rear doesn't seem to be much of a chance to my current setup.

I am tempted to try the 900fr and 1250 rear I am offered.....:D

    Uwe,

The stock style GrpN springs should still be available from the factory. I recently sold a complete GrpN kit. Well, I guess it was like 6 months ago but I bought it direct from the dealer. I can dig up the P/N's if you need them. I can also check on pricing. Course I'm in the US so the pricing I'd get is BMW NA. Lemme know if you need info. Cheers.

thanks for the info, but I don't want new ones. had Just a temp solution in mind.
after last weeks ring driving I am not quite sure if I want to touch my current setup. I was spot-on, never touch a wiining team...:D
