How soon do you need one? I have a new spare MS pan, and will be taking a pattern off it, and having some cast up later this year, along with some alloy diff housings. Conrad
Of course! Probably make in batches of 5 or 10. I will give both to my pattern maker in a couple of weeks and get it started. Have been busy getting my car back together , which has taken priority.
Conrad, a colleague of ours looked to fitting a group-n pan to our E3. Would not fit (cross member). Do you think that these g-a take-offs can fit the space in regular (street) E30M3's ?
OK, I'd be interested...but it might be worth double checking to ensure that they are a direct bolt up for standard application :67:
I'll take a pic and post it up. It uses the standard upper part of the pan, I am pretty sure it is just the width that is different. All the baffles are the same too I think.
Hi Rolland, you got me wondering now what's the difference between the Gr. N and the Gr. A oil pan ? I would think the Gr. A is larger, or not ? Do you have any pictures by chance ? Thomas
The Gr. A lower pan will fit the standard upper pan. But you will have to drill out three threads on the standard upperpan, and screw on the lower from above onto the threads on the lower Gr. A pan. I hope this makes sense. It's the three on the left side of this pan i'm talking about:
Thanks Steffen, I do understand how the Gr.A pan mounts up. The screws go in from the topside to fasten the pan . But what is the difference to the Gr. N oil pan, it must be different in size. Rolland said it wouldn't fit his car that's why I am wondering. Do you have a picture of the Gr.N oil pan ? Maybe I should look at the Gr. N catalogue Thomas
I would be surprised if the Group N pan is any different externally to standard, in Gp.N you were NOT ALLOWED to change these components. The Group A/DTM pan will definitely fit above the cross member, because as we have said, it uses the standard upper pan, it is just the lower part (as Elcortez posted a pic of) that is different.
Okay, a couple of pics, first one is my engine with sump fitted, second one is my spare, which I will use as a pattern. Pretty sure that it is just wider on the right hand side of the engine (exhaust side) and all other dimensions are the same.I will look at getting a few cast in magnesium, the foundry I will be using does excellent mag castings, and they look really good once they have been machined and black oxide coated.
Ive also never seen a Gr N oil pan. There is the standard oil pan and then the DTM oil pan. Baffling the pans was free, so you could do that in Gr N as well. It is also no problem to fit a DTM pan, the only thing that gets in the way is the aircon compressor but I would hope that any car that requires a DTM pan, wont require aircon. what is meant by the term "cross member" ? the front subframe? Oscars car is a RHD conversion, perhaps there is something related to that that prevents use of the pan. John
