This was a really good weekend at Ruapuna race track Christchurch 31st - 2nd of January 2025. I went Saturday caught up with Steve’s who owns and races the Blue E30 M3 French Supertourisme Chamionship #21 Pilot. I must say the Evolution 2 was just spectacular, in NZ for the race series for summer from Australia and I watched Greg Murphy giving a really good demonstration at lunchtime.
Le Mans - Starring Steve McQueen, although many say it lacks a plot, it is without doubt, beautifully filmed. They went to a lot of trouble to make the racing scenes and crashes realistic, so much in fact, that David Piper lost a leg during filming. Other drivers who took part in the filming include Derek Bell, Vic Elford, Jo Siffert, Brian Redman and Herbert Linge.
Belgian company selling an E39 M5 that's said to be a former VW test mule, powered by a prototype W10. The story goes like this: VW didn't have any suitable cars to test the W10 in, so it brought in an M5. Ferdinand Piëch, who conceived the W engine in the first place, apparently liked the result so much that he used the mule as his personal vehicle.
