A friend of mine had a stock 2000MY Impreza Turbo that needed big ends. Driving home from the deales after it's 60k service he got the death rattle. Subaru repaired it even though the warrenty had expired by a few hunderd miles.

    I was surprised

I thought that was only a problem with the earlier 'bigger turbo' cars like 1994/5 cars but obviously not.

    Certainly not!

I looked and read for a long while on the pros/cons of the p1 And they do suffer for bottom end failure,
From what i recall it is due to wrong crank fittment at factory, but instead of subaru doing a recall they gambled on doing them under warranty and the 1's that lasted longer than that (ie the looked after low milers) they had to stump up! ;( .

    A renewed warranty is likeĀ£1800 a year 8o.

I've spoken to many of people on p1woc.com who went and bought a minter 40k miles 3 1/2 year old p1 and it going within weeks 8o ;(
