Time to finally put my photos up from this year's Nürburgring trip. We headed off on the overnight Hull-Rotterdam ferry This rather nice Mustang was just in front of us - It always seems to be raining when we set off! The Gold Wing Caravan Club of Great Britain were also in the queue We chose the weekend of the Spa Classic for our trip. As many of you will be aware, Spa is only 60 odd miles from Nürburgring. Obviously a fan of the Scuderia Some lovely machinery running over the weekend
Group C cars were a highlight of the weekend, although the running was a little wet in practice Great pit access for the public The pink racecar, driven by an all lady crew back in the day Other famous names... ...and some Swedes!
Bonhams were having an auction over the weekend, with a nice variation of cars on offer 1976 Porsche 934/5 Kremer Group 4 with 1977 VW T2 Transporter in background (neither of which sold) 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 Cabriolet - Sold for £254k GBP 1971 Lamborghini Espada Series II Coupé - Sold for £73k GBP 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster - Sold for £998k GBP!!!
Stefan was quite taken with this Swedish model, bearing his namesake! The Volvo 240 Turbo was once the ultimate in touring car racing Interior, functional, but not quite as sophisticated as a modern racing car
The weekend didn't go well for everyone, that's racing. Spotted this Wiesmann in the car park. Sadly, the company went out of business in 2014 Happily, Morgan are still going strong 318is - Wish mine was as clean as these! Spa Classic gets the thumbs up, I would like to go back and watch the night race sometime in the future. .
Time to head over to Nürburgring. Back at our favourite guest house, the VW number plate had me fooled, it was from Liechtenstein. Shaun had made a weekend trip over to meet us - A short ride by his standards! Room with a view!
Up at the Ring car park, we spotted this McLaren, driven by somebody more associated with Porsche... ...5 time Le Mans 24 Hour winner Derek Bell Just to prove that not all the latest 911 GT3RS have been bought by investors and are hiding under dust sheets This 1966 Volvo was getting quite a few laps in, as was this old BMW I think this is a Honda Z600, built from 1970 - 1974 (Please correct me if I'm wrong!). This is a Honda Integra DC5, that I do know!
Another enjoyable trip at an end, we set off on our journey home. After my sat-nav decided to confuse us, we followed Shaun into Düsseldorf for a trip to Classic Remise Love this place, always something new to see M3 Cecotto, once a model that hardly commanded a price above a standard M3, yours for 90,000 EUROS! This AC Schnitzer 2.5 litre version could be yours for 139,000 EUROS!! Beautiful 1931 Delage - 320,000 EUROS AJS 7R - This amazing collection was built up by French motorcycle racer Bernard Guérin, he started to collect these in the 1970s. These 10 AJS machines (only 9 of which are pictured) are 'part' of his famous collection - Price on application. Known as the “Boy Racer”, the 7R won three successive Junior Isle of Man TT races, from 1961 to 1963. The 7R engine castings were fabricated in lightweight metal to save weight – and then anodized gold, not for aesthetic reasons, but to protect the easily oxidized magnesium alloy from corrosion. Swedish rider Bill Nilsson converted an AJS 7R road racer into a motocross bike and rode it to win the inaugural 500cc Motocross World Championship held in 1957.
Back at Rotterdam to catch the evening ferry The now obligatory cheesy P&O band We were joined on the car deck by a group of Model T Fords. Not only was the Model T built in Detroit, they were also produced in the UK at Trafford Park in Manchester from 1912 - 1927 Not sure I would fancy 10 days driving a Model T on today's roads, I'll stick to modern cars! End of report - Thanks for reading. .
