    Bobby Unser 1934-2021

Quick tribute to Bobby Unser, who died last week.

He made his name at Pikes Peak, winning the event outright a record 10 times, to claim the crown 'King of the hill'

He went on to race Indycars

A three time Indy 500 winner, taking his final win age 47 in 1981

He was the first driver ever to use a Gurney Flap, when he drove for Dan Gurney's Indycar team in 1971

Unser retired from racing in 1982. But after seeing Michèle Mouton win the Pikes Peak Hillclimb in 1985, at the wheel of the Audi Sport Quattro, he decided to try and take back his rightful title of 'King of the hill' from the new 'Queen of the hill'

He did well to adapt to driving the 4 wheel drive supercar, and aged 52, took the hill record in 1986 for Audi, and a record 10th and final win for himself

One year later, he was on hand to witness his record being taken by Walter Röhrl at Pikes Peak. I'm sure that even Walter took advice from a 10 time winner!

    Here's a film from Bobby's 1986 Pikes Peak run

Here's one record Hamilton won't be getting his hands on anytime soon.
